I'll admit this isn't as refined as it could be. At this point of the course/year, it's hard to be motivated into meticulous design and detail. I did spend time planning this: I created this idea in math class while not doing math (I might as well do something if I can't find the mental energy to pay attention). I think I stopped myself while painting this because there's a point in watercolour where detail becomes counter-productive. The way I painted this made it hard to get very fair with details. Oh well, it was enjoyable.
I don't think I was thinking of any specific concept with this while painting it. I just knew it could be related to my theme. Protection seems most obvious. And there's something eerie about this. It's something Freudian, or something saying protection is counter-productive (I need a new word..). But it's not the arm reaching down in a way that looks like masturbation. That was just a funny coincident I kept in there.
I don't remember hearing that one, but that one's pretty clever. I'm slow enough to hear Adam's rib 10 times in anthropology, and not realize that it may have some inspiration on this.

Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
